Technology of Shakespeare’s Time

William Shakespear, the famous playwright lived from 1564-1616, in an age where even primitive pocket watches and graphite pencils were considered high tech. However, during this time, many other exiting inventions and theories came from this time.

Astronomy

Astronomy was one of the main scientific endeavors of this time. During the 1500s, the Heliocentric theory was thought up by the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. Interestingly, the telescope did not exist then, as it was first invented in 1608. Astronomy also played a major part in naval navigation, being the only method for sailors to determine where they were while sailing

Transportation

Transportation at this time mostly consisted of heavy wagons pulled by horses. However, smaller and lighter coaches did begin to become available during this period. Ships were the only other alternative from this method of travel.

Everyday Technology

Everyday technology in this time period was mainly focus on agriculture such as watermills and basic tools including hammers, plows, and hoes.
